All Upon Earth Will Perish

Silkscreen on paper
100 X 130 CM
2013
This work presents the Qur’anic verse  “All Upon Earth Will Perish” “Kullu man ‘alayhā fān” rendered in  Thuluth script, inspiration from the compositional sensibility of master calligrapher Hamid Al-Amidi (d. 1402 AH). The script, known for its weight and authority, is reimagined here through a subtle white-on-white silkscreen print that reveals itself only with shifting light and close viewing.
In this muted presence, the calligraphy becomes a quiet trace—an appearance that hovers between visibility and dissolution.

Rather than offering a direct interpretation of the verse, the work invites a quiet visual contemplation shaped by the softness of the surface and the gentle fading of form. In this approach, the familiar text shifts from a declarative statement to a space for reflection—an opportunity to reconsider how an ending might be perceived when its visual presence is reduced to the edge of visibility.

Through this restrained presentation, the piece repositions a well-known phrase within a new sensory context, encouraging viewers to rethink ideas of finality and to explore the subtle interpretive possibilities that emerge when meaning is conveyed through near-absence rather than emphasis.
